Apple has launched the next generation of Mac Studio, equipped with lightning-fast M4 Max and the all-new M3 Ultra chips. This elegantly designed desktop computer not only maintains its sleek appearance but also enhances computational power and expandability, making it particularly suitable for video editing, software development, and other professionals who require high-performance environments.
In terms of hardware design, the Mac Studio continues to showcase a sleek and compact aesthetic, now powered by upgraded CPUs, a new graphics architecture, and a faster neural engine. The M4 Max chip offers up to 16-core CPU and 40-core GPU configurations, along with a unified memory bandwidth of up to 128GB, making multitasking a breeze. The M3 Ultra chip steps it up even further, boasting a maximum of 32-core CPU and 80-core GPU, supporting up to 512GB of memory, with an option for up to 16TB SSD storage. This setup not only handles 3D scene rendering and large language model inference with ease but also excels in AI functions due to its larger memory bandwidth and rapid neural engine.
When it comes to connectivity options, the Mac Studio now supports Thunderbolt 5, boasting theoretical transfer speeds of up to 120Gb/s, surpassing its predecessors. This makes it easy to connect external storage devices or meet multi-card expansion needs. With the M3 Ultra chip, the system can drive up to eight 6K displays and features a 10Gb Ethernet port, an SDXC card slot, as well as wireless capabilities supporting Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth, ensuring users can work seamlessly in a multi-screen environment.
The Mac Studio also features Apple Intelligence, seamlessly integrating functions like document proofreading, image creation, and personal assistance within the system. Some functions can run on the device itself, while larger AI models operate via private cloud computing, ensuring user privacy is protected. The newly launched macOS Sequoia system offers more intuitive iPhone mirroring and drag-and-drop features, plus simplified window management and built-in backgrounds, providing users with a more flexible control experience for both work and entertainment. The future macOS Sequoia 15.4 will further assist users in quickly setting up their newly purchased Mac Studio.
When it comes to hardware pairing, the Mac Studio not only connects seamlessly with Apple’s Studio Display and Pro Display XDR but also offers a wider field of view and outstanding color performance. Moreover, the built-in camera and microphone in the Studio Display simplify the setup for users who need video calls and audio capabilities, reducing the hassle of additional devices. In line with environmental commitments, the Mac Studio utilizes recycled aluminum and rare earth elements, all wrapped in fiber materials, contributing to Apple’s carbon neutrality goal for 2030.
When it comes to pricing, the new Mac Studio is now available for pre-order, starting at HK$15,999 in Hong Kong, with an educational discount price starting at HK$14,499. It will begin shipping on March 12 and will be available in Apple Stores worldwide. Users can choose to customize their configurations based on their needs, such as upgrading to larger memory or higher-capacity SSDs. For users seeking high performance and expandability in a desktop Mac, the new chip and versatile connectivity options of the Mac Studio will provide a smoother experience.
