Recently at the Monterey Car Week, McLaren unveiled the stunning new livery for the Project: Endurance Le Mans Hypercar, paying tribute to the brand’s first honor at the 1974 Indianapolis 500.
This unique design draws inspiration from the McLaren M16 driven by Johnny Rutherford during his championship win. It features the iconic McLaren Orange as the base color, accentuated with deep blue stripes reminiscent of the Texas state flag. The roof showcases a lone star, representing Rutherford's nickname Lone Star JR, while prominently displaying his racing number 3 alongside McLaren's Speedy Kiwi and the Speedmark logo.
Project: Endurance will make its debut this season at the Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race, marking McLaren's return to the top tier of endurance racing. This initiative goes beyond just delivering a standard Le Mans Hypercar; it emphasizes opening up the entire development process and team resources, while also offering a two-year global top-level track driving training program. Owners will have the chance to train alongside professional drivers and receive comprehensive support from maintenance teams and engineers, creating a pathway for advancement from novice to expert.
The brand plans to showcase this new livery at several events happening in August across Monterey, Dallas, and Miami, aiming to attract the attention of existing customers, potential buyers, and car enthusiasts, all while gearing up for the track debut at the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship.
