This year, the San Francisco Giants experienced a rollercoaster of a season in 2025, leaving fans feeling disappointed. The team boasts a solid roster but failed to step up at crucial moments, culminating in the firing of head coach Bob Melvin, which became major news as the season wrapped up. This marks the third consecutive year the Giants have seen key personnel depart, following the resignations of Gabe Kapler and Farhan Zaidi in the previous two seasons. This season also marked the first year that legendary catcher Buster Posey took over as the president of baseball operations, where he’s begun to make his impact felt, with hopes of leading the Giants toward a brighter future.
In the 2025 season, both fans and Posey are looking forward to gaining experience from the following aspects.
It’s worth noting that Willy Adames and Rafael Devers’ hitting prowess is no longer a concern for fans. These two star players, who recently joined the team, have quickly adapted to their new environment. Adames had a slow start to the season, but as the games progressed, he demonstrated incredible power, ultimately matching Barry Bonds’ 2004 record with 30 home runs, becoming only the second player in team history to achieve this feat. Meanwhile, Devers experienced some fluctuations in performance, yet still managed to hit 20 extra-base hits over 90 games, making a significant contribution to the team’s offensive lineup. This success has instilled confidence that their hitting abilities will thrive in the new ballpark.
Moreover, starting pitchers like Landen Roupp are proving their worth in the Major Leagues. After a successful spring training, he secured the fifth starting position and pitched 106.2 innings during the season, achieving an ERA of 3.80. Although injuries plagued his performance towards the end of the season, his stellar earlier displays have made him a promising asset for the team.
However, the outfield defense still needs improvement. The trade of Mike Yastrzemski has laid bare the vulnerabilities in outfield defense, and both Heliot Ramos and Li Zhenghou have underperformed defensively, particularly when contrasted with Li Zhenghou’s Gold Glove performance in the KBO. Here’s hoping that in the upcoming seasons, the outfield’s defensive issues can be effectively addressed, bringing more stability to the team.
