Final Fantasy VII Switch: Intergrade on Nintendo Switch 2

Final Fantasy VII Switch players can now play Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Nintendo Switch 2, publisher Square Enix announced, with the game set to launch Jan. 22, 2026.

Release and platforms for Final Fantasy VII Switch

Release date: Jan. 22, 2026, Square Enix said, and the company confirmed the title will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 and on Xbox Series X/S the same day.

The Switch 2 release follows earlier versions on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC, and brings the remake edition to Nintendo’s latest hardware for the first time.

Performance and visuals of the Final Fantasy VII Switch release

In hands on testing for this review, the Final Fantasy VII Switch version sustained 1080p resolution and roughly 30 frames per second in both docked and handheld modes.

Visual trade offs are visible compared with PlayStation 5 and high end PC builds, with simplified shadowing and lower hair and environment detail, but Midgar’s scale, neon lighting, and combat effects remain striking on the Switch 2 screen.

Handheld play is especially notable: occasional frame rate dips appear during large boss fights and cinematics, but overall the game feels smooth enough for on the go sessions that approach console quality.

    Gameplay, systems, and story

The remake centers on protagonist Cloud Strife, a former Shinra soldier who joins the resistance group Avalanche to fight Shinra Electric Power Company and its exploitation of planetary energy.

The title merges real time action with a command based system, letting players use normal attacks and character skills to build an ATB gauge, then spend that gauge on magic, abilities, or items.

Character roles are distinct: Cloud offers balanced offense and defense; Barret focuses on long range firepower and damage soaking; Tifa emphasizes fast combos; and Aerith provides magic and support. The Materia system allows broad customization of abilities and spells.

    Content and play time

The Switch 2 edition includes the full main story and the Yuffie centered INTERmission episode. Square Enix lists the main campaign at about 30 to 40 hours, with INTERmission adding roughly 6 to 10 hours, for a combined 40 to 50 hours of play time.

The release also carries a number of quality of life options intended to help players new to the series move through story and progression more smoothly, Square Enix said in its announcement.

    Storage and system considerations

Players should note the game’s storage requirements: Square Enix lists an install size near 90 GB.

Nintendo’s Switch 2 ships with 256 GB of internal storage, so the title would consume more than one third of the console’s built in space. File size: about 90 GB, Square Enix said.

If you plan to keep multiple large games installed, adding an external storage card will be necessary for most players, the announcement warned.

    Price and platforms summary

Square Enix confirmed the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S editions will cost $39.99 at launch.

For fans who want to play Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Nintendo hardware, the Final Fantasy VII Switch release represents a new opportunity to revisit Midgar on a portable console.

Platform availability and technical notes come from Square Enix and hardware specifications published by Nintendo. For more details on patches, settings, and optional upgrades, Square Enix said it will publish post launch information on its official site.
