Tesla's latest in-car software update features the AI chatbot Grok, developed by xAI under the leadership of Elon Musk. This update is currently available only for the U.S. market and is compatible with models equipped with the AMD infotainment computer. This means that only Tesla vehicles produced after mid-2021 will have access to this feature.
According to the update version 2025.26, Grok is still in the testing phase and cannot control the vehicle. Owners can only interact with it through conversation, while the existing voice control features of the vehicle continue to operate normally.
Using Grok requires a connection to advanced network services or WiFi. Tesla has mentioned that while Grok is already integrated into the vehicle's system, it does not issue any commands to the car. Currently, its functionality is more akin to the experience found in mobile chat applications.
Elon Musk recently revealed that Tesla plans to gradually integrate Grok into all its vehicles. These tests will assess Grok's performance in the in-car environment and gather user feedback to inform future updates.
With the release of this update, many car owners are starting to pay attention to the future development of in-car artificial intelligence, particularly when true vehicle control features will be realized. Tesla emphasizes that the current Grok is still in a testing phase and there’s still some way to go before it’s fully implemented.
