A groundbreaking underground parking project named EUP Vertical Smart Garage is set to launch in the Jing'an District of Shanghai. This impressive 17-story parking structure will soon begin accepting registrations. Its design is not just unique but also makes it one of the largest smart parking garages in the world, offering up to 304 robotic parking spaces, which is expected to effectively address the parking woes of local residents.
This garage is located underground within the city’s green space, extending down to a depth of 50.5 meters, which is equivalent to 17 stories. Inside, there are up to 19 levels of parking spaces distributed across two vertical shafts. What makes this garage stand out even more is the presence of 76 electric vehicle charging spots, accounting for about 25% of the total parking spaces. It accommodates a variety of vehicle types, including sedans, SUVs, and commercial vehicles, with a maximum weight capacity of up to 2.8 tons. The dimensions for these vehicles are 5.3 meters in length, 1.9 meters in width, and 1.9 meters in height. Remarkably, the entire project occupies only 286 square meters of surface space while providing capacity for ten times the number of vehicles compared to traditional parking lots.
This project features a PCS-type vertical lift mechanical parking system, integrating pallet transportation and AGV automatic handling technology, allowing for a car retrieval time of just around 90 seconds. Luo Zhimin, the person in charge of China Railway Fifteenth Bureau Shanghai Smart Transportation Technology Company, pointed out that this design enables vehicles to be tiered like in an underground residential building. The ground is equipped with eight independent entrances and exits, each featuring lifting equipment and AGV handling robots to facilitate the process.
Car owners can use the app or mini-program of Tiejian Smart Parking to book parking. The system will guide the AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) to take the car to the designated parking spot, eliminating the need for the owner to reverse or turn around. Once the owner parks in the specified location, the AGV will automatically move the vehicle to the entrance, where it will be transported to the underground parking space via a conveyor belt. This entire process is highly automated, and drivers can also manually complete parking through screen buttons.
In addition, engineer Yao Shikun mentioned that the system also supports a remote car pickup reservation feature. Car owners just need to preset the pickup time within 300 meters of the garage, and the AGV robot will deliver the car to the designated pickup spot on time, significantly boosting turnover rates and operational efficiency.
EUP Vertical Smart Garage not only transforms the parking experience but also utilizes the construction model of public green spaces and underground parking to enhance the efficiency of urban land use. This project applies China's independently developed ultra-large diameter vertical excavation equipment, Dream Ship, in civilian construction. The machine stands 10 meters tall, weighs 650 tons, and has a power capacity of 1,800 kilowatts, with an excavation diameter of 23.02 meters, filling a gap in the development of this technology.
