Warner Bros. recently announced the cancellation of the “Wonder Woman” game project and shut down three game studios, including Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB San Diego. This news, first reported by Bloomberg, has sparked widespread attention and shock among gamers, especially with the closure of Monolith Productions coming as a particular surprise.
Monolith Productions’ game, “Middle-earth: Shadow of War,” received rave reviews from players. This title stands out among works related to “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” in the market, truly making it one of the most acclaimed masterpieces available.
Warner’s current focus includes the development of “Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC, and Game of Thrones,” so it seems that the expansion of the “Middle-earth” series will be temporarily put on hold.
As for MultiVersus, the game was announced to be shutting down as early as January 2025, with the official reminder that the online services will continue until the end of Season 5 (from February 4, 2025, to May 30, 2025). After the season ends, the game will be permanently removed from the Microsoft Store, PS Store, Steam, and Epic platforms. Therefore, players who wish to have this title need to download and update to the latest version during the season in order to play MultiVersus offline in the future.
Warner stated that the reason for closing the studio is due to a “strategic shift in company policy.”
