Saint Laurent is set to reintroduce an exclusive furniture collection designed by Charlotte Perriand during the upcoming Milan Salone del Mobile.
The exhibition titled Saint Laurent — Charlotte Perriand will showcase four creations by the late French architect and designer, spanning from 1943 to 1967. Each piece has been personally selected and reimagined in bespoke form by Saint Laurent’s Creative Director, Anthony Vaccarello, as a tribute to this extraordinary designer.
Among the exhibits, the Rio de Janeiro bookshelf designed by Perriand in 1962 for her second husband Jacques Martin stands out as particularly striking. This piece has only been displayed three times in the past 25 years, highlighting its rarity and preciousness. Meanwhile, the Indochina guest armchair, originally created in 1943, was meticulously recreated by Saint Laurent through illustrations after the original piece was lost, showcasing an unwavering commitment to design details.
In addition, the Mille-Feuilles table from 1963 will also make a public debut. Originally existing only as a scaled-down model, this table features a unique structure composed of 10 layers of different woods. At the time, the complexity of its design made mass production unfeasible. Lastly, the exhibition will showcase the sofa designed by Perriand in 1967 for the residence of the Japanese ambassador in Paris, a piece that seamlessly combines functionality and elegance.
Saint Laurent’s collaboration with Charlotte Perriand highlights the brand’s unwavering dedication to preserving design culture. The brand revealed to the media that this initiative aims to showcase significant works, often tucked away in exclusive collections, to a broader audience, promoting the invaluable essence of design culture.
This collaboration also pays tribute to Yves Saint Laurent’s profound appreciation for Perriand’s works. During his lifetime, Yves collected numerous pieces of her designs, while Pierre Bergé supported several significant Perriand retrospectives worldwide, further highlighting the historical value of her creations.
Saint Laurent’s reissued Charlotte Perriand collaboration series will soon be showcased at Padiglione Visconti in Milan, offering design enthusiasts a visual feast.
