COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT and ASICS have just unveiled their latest collaboration, breaking away from recent understated trends. The collection reimagines the GEL-LYTE III 07 silhouette with bold, intersecting plaid patterns. First revealed during the brand's Spring/Summer 2025 show at Paris Fashion Week, these sneakers feature intricate patchwork plaid detailing that mirrors the layered and overlapping checkered elements seen throughout the apparel collection, delivering a striking visual impact.
Compared to the monochromatic designs of the 2024 GEL-TERRAIN and GEL-NUNOBIKI, COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT, founded by Rei Kawakubo, brings a bolder, more expressive style to the table, reinterpreting the brand's 2020 GEL-LYTE III 07. This sneaker retains its iconic silhouette, featuring an upper crafted with full-color plaid fabric, where the plaid patterns are deliberately misaligned to create a unique patchwork effect. The plaid design even extends onto the midsole, achieved through a specialized printing technique that amplifies the shoe's striking and flamboyant aesthetic.
The white text detailing on the sneakers adds a subtle touch of brand recognition, featuring the COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT logo on the midsole, the GEL-LYTE III 07 lettering on the side, and the ASICS marking on the heel. The white laces introduce a contrasting layer to the overall design. This collaboration sneaker is available in two colorways: one in traditional menswear tones and the other blending soft pastel hues like pink, purple, and sky blue, each showcasing distinctly different styles.
Currently, the COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT x ASICS GEL-LYTE III 07 has already hit shelves at select retailers across Europe, though the release dates for the United States and other regions have yet to be announced.
