Black Mirror Season 7 Bête Noire Explores Dual Realities and the Mandela Effect

Netflix’s latest hit series 《Black Mirror》 has sparked heated discussions recently, particularly with one standout episode from Season 7, 《Bête Noire》. This episode follows Maria, played by Siena Kelly, a food company researcher leading a rather uneventful life—until her former classmate, Verity (portrayed by Rosy McEwen), unexpectedly reappears and starts to disrupt her daily routines, affecting both her work and inner world. Verity’s presence seems much more than provocative; she appears to wield some kind of mysterious ability capable of 《Rewriting Reality》.

A pivotal moment in the storyline happens during a seemingly harmless conversation. Everyone starts debating whether the name of a well-known fast-food chain is Barnies or Bernies. Maria firmly believes it’s the latter, as her boyfriend used to work there. However, when she looks it up online, she discovers that the results completely contradict her memory, adding even more mystery to the plot.

Interestingly, some netizens have discovered that Netflix seems to have created the illusion of Mandela Effect by releasing two different versions of Bête Noire. For instance, in one version, the fast-food restaurant is named Barnies, while in another, it appears as Bernies. The version viewers get to see is entirely determined by the platform’s random mechanism. This kind of Dual Reality design not only sparks conversation around the series but also effectively shatters the audience’s trust in Established Fact, making it truly thought-provoking.

Currently, Season 7 of Black Mirror is now available on Netflix and has received positive feedback. Interested viewers can check it out.
