The classic horror series Scream is set to unleash a bloody storm once again in 2026, with the film Scream 7 slated for release on February 27, 2026. David Arquette has confirmed his return, sparking fans’ curiosity about whether he will once again reprise his role as Dewey Riley. Even more exciting is the return of original creator Kevin Williamson, who has been away from the core of the series since 2011 Scream 4. This time, he is not only taking creative control but will also make his directorial debut. For Arquette, who has participated in the production of Scream multiple times, collaborating with Kevin again is monumental. He describes this as The Perfect Moment of Return and expresses his exhilaration at the opportunity to return to this iconic horror series.

Although Arquette hasn’t revealed much about the movie’s plot, he mentioned that his long-standing collaboration with Kevin has given him great confidence in this new project. Kevin Williamson, the writer behind Scream (1996), was known for both subverting traditional horror storytelling while paying homage to classics, making it one of the standout teen horror films of the 90s. His return to the forefront has stirred up a lot of anticipation among loyal fans.

Aside from filming for movies, Arquette has recently shot a new advertisement for the fast-food chain Arby’s. Although the ad does not explicitly mention the character Dewey Riley, both the styling and tone closely mirror that of the character in the film. He mentioned that while the role in the ad isn’t a complete match for Dewey, it is very much in the spirit of the character, serving as a fun tribute. He joked that I have high standards when it comes to sauce; Arby’s has the meat, but it’s their sauces that I really love..

The advertising campaign has seen more family involvement, with Arquette revealing that his sister contributed some of the copy for this ad. He described the experience of reinterpreting this character in various scenes as genuinely interesting.

When discussing the longevity secrets of the Scream series, Arquette pointed out that the series not only shocks audiences but also successfully blends self-referential humor with true horror elements, creating a unique style. He believes this style resonates with the cultural consciousness of viewers, even forecasting trends better than many horror films, having explored the role of fan culture in horror storytelling over 20 years ago.

He added that modern audiences have easier access to various classic horror films compared to the 1990s, with streaming platforms transforming the viewing experience. Now, timeless works like Night of the Living Dead and Friday the 13th can be revisited anytime. He pointed out that In the past, we had to rely on TV marathons to watch classic movies, but now, all it takes is to log into a streaming platform, and we can revisit all the classics in one go. It’s truly amazing!.

Currently, Scream (1996) is available on Peacock, PlutoTV, and Hulu, while Scream 7 is set to debut on February 27, 2026. Directed by Kevin Williamson, this film is expected to blend original spirit with modern perspectives, promising to reach new heights for the series.
