Wicked: For Good recently made a grand entrance into theaters, stunning audiences worldwide with its box office performance, raking in an impressive $226 million in its opening week. It has secured the fourth spot for global opening box office earnings in 2025, just behind Disney’s Lilo & Stitch remake, Jurassic World Rebirth, and A Minecraft Movie.
This film is adapted from the second half of a popular musical, raking in $150 million at the domestic box office, while also impressing in overseas markets with $76 million. Notably, it has successfully shattered the box office record for Broadway adaptations, surpassing its predecessor Wicked, which grossed $164.2 million globally, with $50.2 million from international markets and $112.5 million from North America.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, this sequel wraps up the story with Elphaba still referred to as Western Bad Witch at the start, while her friend Glinda basks in the spotlight as Glinda the Good. Compared to the first installment, this film adopts a darker and more somber narrative style, with the Wicked Witch facing the accusations of a mob. At its core, the story revolves around the reunion of Elphaba and Glinda, who ultimately decide to join forces to change themselves and commit to altering the fate of the entire Oz kingdom.
