At this year's CES 2026, the LEGO Group unveiled its brand new LEGOSMART Play platform, marking the most significant evolution since the launch of the Minifigure in 1978. This platform utilizes innovative technology to enhance the interactivity of building blocks without the need for a screen.
At the heart of this brand-new system is the SMART Brick smart building block, slightly smaller than your standard block and powered by specialized chips. This block features over 20 groundbreaking patent technologies, including various sensors, accelerometers, and sound detectors, along with a small speaker synthesizer that can respond in real-time to gameplay, triggering an array of sound effects and actions.
For players with a LEGO collection, it's thrilling that these newly released SMART Bricks are fully compatible with existing LEGO sets, so there's no need to swap out any of your current bricks. Plus, the new system also comes with a wireless charger, making recharging super convenient.
As the new system rolls out, LEGO's collaboration with Star Wars is a must, set to launch three SMART Play sets themed around the iconic series. These exciting new products will be released sequentially before March and include Luke's Red Five X-Wing, Darth Vader's TIE Fighter, and Throne Room Duel & A-Wing. Each set comes with a LEGO SMART Brick charger, featuring at least one LEGO SMART Minifigure and a LEGO SMART Tag.
The release date for these three outfits is March 1, with pre-orders starting on January 9. In terms of pricing, Darth Vader's TIE Fighter is priced at approximately £69.99 GBP / $139.99 USD, Luke's Red Five X-wing at around £79.99 GBP / $99.99 USD, and Throne Room Duel & A-wing comes in at £139.99 GBP / $159.99 USD.
