Apple Unveils Next-Generation M5 Chip with Launch of New Devices in 2026

Apple has recently captured attention in the tech world. Following the launch of the iPhone 17 series and Apple Watch Series 11 in September, the company is set to introduce products featuring the next-generation M5 chip. According to insider information, Apple plans to unveil the M5 iPad Pro, M5 MacBook Pro, and an updated version of the Vision Pro within this week.

The first 14-inch MacBook Pro featuring the standard M5 chip is set to launch soon, marking a milestone in Apple’s M5 chip series. According to reports from AppleInsider, this new machine is in the final stages before its release and is currently undergoing internal testing with the yet-to-be-released macOS version 26.0.2.

As for the top-tier versions of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro featuring the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, we’ll have to wait until early 2026 for the announcement, at which point they'll come equipped with macOS 26.3. This phased release strategy isn’t new; Apple utilized a similar approach back in 2020 when launching the versions with the M1 chip.

The latest MacBook Pro will only be upgraded to the M5 chip, with the exterior design, mini-LED display, and port layout remaining unchanged. More innovative designs, such as an OLED display and a slimmer body, are expected to be realized with the M6 chip generation.

Recently, two Russian YouTubers got an early hands-on with the M5 iPad Pro, revealing its actual features. The AT&T website also unexpectedly shared information about the upcoming pre-order details.

According to performance tests, the M5 chip is 10% faster in single-core performance and shows a 16% improvement in multi-core performance compared to the M4 chip, with a remarkable 34% enhancement in graphics processing. The new M5 chip features a 9-core CPU design, achieving up to a 12% boost in multi-core CPU performance. Additionally, GPU performance has increased by 36%.

There are rumors that the M5 iPad Pro will feature dual front-facing cameras. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman has confirmed that Apple is testing a version with a second camera, but there is no clear evidence for this design in YouTuber unboxing videos. Additionally, it is expected that the M5 iPad Pro will not undergo any significant design changes.

In the updated version of the Vision Pro headset, Apple is planning to equip it with the M5 chip to replace the existing M2 chip, and it may come with a more comfortable Dual Knit Band headband to enhance comfort during long periods of use. However, this update is somewhat limited and does not address the major challenges faced by the original Vision Pro. Reports suggest that the updated version may not significantly reduce the device's weight, and the anticipated more affordable version has reportedly been postponed.

The future product roadmap also includes an upgraded version of the HomePod mini, AirTag, and Apple TV, along with the M5 MacBook Air and high-end MacBook Pro equipped with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Some of these products may not appear until next year.

According to information sourced by AppleInsider from the macOS Tahoe 26 code, the M5 MacBook Air—featuring both 13-inch and 15-inch models—is expected to debut in early 2026. Additionally, the M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro models are anticipated to be unveiled alongside macOS 26.3 in the spring of 2026. The M5 Mac mini, Mac Studio, and iMac are also projected to launch during the WWDC 2026 event in mid-2026. Apple plans to announce these exciting new products through official press releases and promotional videos rather than the traditional live event format.
