Tokyo's GALLERY TARGET is set to unveil a brand new solo exhibition by artist Adriana Oliver BECOMING. This marks her first return to Japan in four years, centered around Become, exploring the ongoing state represented by transformation rather than a fleeting event.
In the BECOMING collection, Oliver reinterprets contemporary narratives of identity and self through the distinctive visual language, vibrant colors, and imagery of 1960s sports advertisements. In this context, sports becomes more than just a symbol of athletic competition; it serves as a metaphor for discipline, repetition, and the lengthy process of shedding old identities for growth.
In the exhibition, Oliver shifts the theme of sports from the arena to the inner transformations, reflecting concepts of discipline, training, patience, breakdown, and rebirth. Each piece represents the emotional power behind profound change, depicting the internal struggle of gradually shedding an old identity. Through her use of color and meticulous composition, her works showcase the coexistence of strength and vulnerability, offering the audience a space to reflect on transformation.
The exhibition will be held at GALLERY TARGET from March 5 to March 28, 2026, in special collaboration with Coffee Supreme. They will launch a limited edition tote bag and drip coffee set, transforming the core concept of the exhibition into a part of everyday life.
