Long wait, right? Netflix has recently unveiled the first trailer for its brand new adaptation of the literary classic Pride and Prejudice, marking the first significant screen adaptation in nearly two decades. This project aims to captivate both long-time fans of Jane Austen and a new generation of viewers.
This 55-second trailer is thick with atmosphere, offering a first glimpse of Emma Corrin as the clever and insightful Elizabeth Bennet, alongside Jack Lowden as the reserved and composed Mr. Darcy. Additionally, Oscar winner Olivia Colman portrays Mrs. Bennet, while Rufus Sewell and Fiona Shaw take on the roles of Mr. Bennet and Lady Catherine de Bourgh, respectively. The powerhouse cast definitely enhances the appeal of this production.
The series, directed by Euros Lyn and penned by Dolly Alderton, aims to faithfully capture the spirit of the original work from 1813. While it seeks to amplify Austen’s wit and sharp social commentary, it avoids overly modernizing the text. This six-part limited series is set to be released in the fall, promising to be a standout among Netflix’s many literary adaptations.
