Recently, SEIKO unveiled the all-new SEIKO 5 Sports HUF Limited Edition SRPM09, merging the brand’s classic Time Sonar design concept with the visual elements of the streetwear brand HUF. Rooted in the SEIKO 5 Sports collection, this collaborative timepiece features a striking HUF Green semi-transparent dial, showcasing a unique design ethos that sets it apart from typical sports watches while still retaining the structural beauty characteristic of mechanical timepieces.
Founded in 2002 by professional skateboarder Keith Hufnagel, HUF is a lifestyle brand heavily influenced by skate culture and street style. The brand started as a retail store showcasing multiple curated labels, gradually evolving into a complete fashion label that has established a strong identity through clothing, accessories, and various collaborations. This collaboration with SEIKO brings HUF’s iconic color palette HUF Green into the design of the wristwatch.
The overall design inspiration for the SRPM09 comes from SEIKO’s Time Sonar from the 1970s. This series was renowned for its translucent dial, allowing wearers to catch a glimpse of the intricate movement inside. In this collaborative version, the translucent design returns, reimagined in a striking green that infuses the watch with a vibrant street culture vibe. Through this design, the underlying day and date mechanisms are visible, adding depth and dimension to the dial.
The design of the dial also incorporates multiple intricate details. The hour markers feature a three-dimensional design, with an orange triangular marker at the 12 o’clock position that complements the orange second hand. The center is surrounded by a black area encasing the date display, enhancing the overall clarity for reading the time. The hands maintain the shape characteristic of the Time Sonar series, and are coated with LumiBrite, ensuring excellent readability even in low light conditions.
The watch features a stainless steel case with a diameter of 39.4mm and a thickness of 11.6mm, while the lug-to-lug length measures approximately 48.1mm, marking it as a medium size commonly found in the SEIKO 5 Sports series. The case combines polished and brushed finishes, complemented by a sleek polished bezel for a sharper overall appearance. The dial is protected by Hardlex super hard crystal, with a water resistance rating of 10 bars, and is equipped with a screw-down crown, making it more than capable of handling everyday wear.
Flipping over to the back of the watch, you can spot yet another detail crafted exclusively for this collaboration. The transparent screw-down case back features mineral glass with a greenish hue, adorned with a pattern inspired by San Francisco. The case back also showcases the LIMITED EDITION mark along with an individual serial number, emphasizing the limited-edition status of this watch.
The SRPM09 is equipped with SEIKO’s own 4R36 automatic movement, featuring a vibration frequency of 3Hz and an approximate power reserve of 41 hours. This movement boasts 24 jewels and supports a hacking feature for the second hand, as well as manual winding. It also offers day and date displays, making it a robust and mature movement configuration within the SEIKO 5 Sports series.
The watch features a three-link stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp, leaning towards an everyday sporty style. SEIKO has also prepared exclusive packaging for the SRPM09, with the watch placed in a custom stainless steel box and accompanied by an original polishing cloth, enhancing the overall collectible feel.
The SEIKO 5 Sports HUF Limited Edition SRPM09 is a globally limited release of just 7,000 pieces, set to hit selected SEIKO boutiques and retail outlets starting March 2026, with a reference price of approximately HKD $3,150.
