Namiya General Store drama adapts Keigo Higashino’s best known novel, and will stream exclusively on Disney+ in 2027, the streamer said.

Keigo Higashino’s novel, published in English as The Miracles of the Namiya General Store, has sold more than 13 million copies worldwide. The story links lives across time through letters, and the new Korean drama reinterprets those connections through a contemporary visual language.
How the Namiya General Store drama retells the story
The drama opens with three young men who, after a failed incident, take refuge in an abandoned corner shop that once answered people’s troubles. Although the store has been closed for years, a letterbox begins to receive requests for help from different eras.
At first the three reply to the letters as a test, but they soon find their responses can affect past choices and change the lives of the letter writers. The series balances the story’s fantastical element with realist character work, using the letter exchange to reflect the protagonists’ own decisions and doubts.

Cast of the Namiya General Store drama
The series assembles performers from multiple generations. Ryu Seung-ryong plays the store owner, a central figure who links past and present. Kim Hye-yoon, Moon Sang-min, and Lee Chae-won appear in major roles, and the production highlights a 32 centimeter height difference between Lee Chae-won and Kim Hye-yoon as a visual contrast in several scenes.
The three young men are played by Kang Yoo seok, Park Jung-woo, and Kim Jae jin, who carry much of the plot momentum. The supporting ensemble includes Yeom Jung-ah, Yeom Hye-ran, Kim Min-ha, Park Hee-soon, Oh Na-ra, and others, each portraying characters whose lives shift because of the letters.

Ensemble storytelling
Multiple character lines run in parallel, so the drama does not hinge on a single event. Instead, it gradually assembles a wider portrait about choice and consequence, and how one person’s response can ripple through another person’s life.
Production and adaptation choices
The series is directed and coadapted by Park Young-joo (朴英珠), and produced by The LAMP Ltd. The creative team has adjusted the background setting to make the characters’ situations feel closer to contemporary life, a change intended to deepen viewer empathy.

In an era dominated by instant messaging, the choice to keep letters as the primary means of communication creates a deliberate time lag in emotional exchange. Characters must wait for replies, which opens narrative space to show how decisions are reconsidered and how inner lives quietly change.
Disney+ said the Namiya General Store drama will premiere exclusively on its platform in 2027, offering a new way to read and watch Keigo Higashino’s letter-driven tale. The streamer did not provide a specific release date or episode count when it announced the project.
Producers say the adaptation aims to preserve the novel’s emotional core while using cinematic tools to reshape pacing and perspective. Viewers familiar with the book can expect familiar themes of regret and redemption, while new audiences will meet a story reframed for contemporary screens.
Disney+ has not yet said whether the series will be available globally on the same date, or if it will be released in multiple languages. The production company, The LAMP Ltd, confirmed filming and postproduction schedules are ongoing.
