NBA Playoff Highlights: Grizzlies Struggle Against Thunder, Magic vs Celtics Analysis

In the first round of the NBA playoffs, the matchups were intense as teams advancing from the play-in tournament took on powerhouse squads. Among these, the games between the Grizzlies and the Magic stood out as particularly noteworthy. In their matchup, the Grizzlies faced off against the league’s reigning champions, the Thunder. Although the opening minutes saw back-and-forth scoring, the Grizzlies quickly found themselves facing an insurmountable gap, suffering a crushing defeat with a staggering 51-point margin. Meanwhile, the Magic went head-to-head with last year’s champions, the Celtics, but similarly struggled offensively, leading to a lopsided loss. Let’s dive into a breakdown of these gripping showdowns.

Facing the formidable Thunder in their first NBA playoff clash, the Grizzlies clearly felt the pressure. The game started with both teams evenly matched, but as Isaiah Hartenstein and Chet Holmgren consistently scored, the Thunder gradually built a 12-point lead. Despite this, the Grizzlies attempted to mount a comeback, but their efforts to break through the Thunder’s fierce defense repeatedly fell short. The gap quickly widened to 20 points, leaving the Grizzlies struggling under mounting pressure.

In this game, the Grizzlies' offense faced unprecedented lockdowns, relying almost entirely on Ja Morant to keep them afloat. Their overall shooting performance was underwhelming, and the team's athleticism seemed far from its peak. On the other hand, the Thunder showcased their diverse offensive strengths, with standout performances not only from their key players but also from bench players like Jalen Williams, who made his mark with 20 points, becoming a highlight for the visiting team. Ultimately, the Thunder delivered a crushing 131-80 victory, marking the fifth-largest playoff win margin in history. This game made the Grizzlies' playoff journey look even more challenging.

As for the Magic's game against the Celtics, Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero shone brightly in the first quarter, netting 14 points for the team. However, with the Celtics' powerful counterattack, the score gap gradually widened. Despite the Magic's attempt to close the gap in the second quarter by improving their performance from beyond the arc, Celtics veteran Jrue Holiday once again led the offensive charge, stifling the Magic's hopes of a comeback. Notably, power forward Banchero was unable to shift the game's momentum in the final quarter, leading to a 103-86 defeat and failing to break the Celtics’ winning streak at home.
