David Silva Hong Kong debut is set after the 40-year-old Spanish midfielder agreed to play a one match contract with newly promoted Hong Kong Premier League club Supreme Shatin, the club said Wednesday.

David Silva Hong Kong arrival and contract
The club said Silva is expected to arrive in Hong Kong in mid October and will join team training after passing a fitness test, the club said in a statement. The initial agreement covers one official league match, with the club and Silva to consider additional appearances depending on his fitness and willingness.
The club announced Silva will wear his customary No. 21 jersey for the match, which is scheduled for Nov. 7 at Supreme Shatin’s home ground against Standard Rangers, the club said.

What Silva told Spanish media
In an interview with Spanish broadcaster Juanma Castaño, Silva said he intends to play only one official match in Hong Kong. He added that he was surprised by reports suggesting he had signed for the entire season, and that the club’s proposal appealed to him because it is a competitive league match rather than an exhibition featuring retired players.
Silva said he has long enjoyed visiting Hong Kong, and that friends and previous trips helped shape his decision. “I have always liked Hong Kong, and I visited several times last year,” he said. “This is a real league match in a place I enjoy, so it felt like the right idea.”
Match day plans and fan access
The club is promoting a premium membership that offers priority access to training sessions and a chance for a private photo with Silva, the statement said. The announcement has fueled heightened interest around the Hong Kong Premier League, with local fans eager to see the former Spain and Manchester City midfielder in action.
Silva, who was part of Spain’s teams that won the 2010 World Cup and the 2008 and 2012 European Championships, helped Manchester City secure multiple domestic titles during his career. After three years away from the professional game, his decision to return for a match in Hong Kong has drawn attention across local and international football circles.
Supreme Shatin said ticketing details and membership packages will be released ahead of Silva’s arrival. Supporters and league observers said they will watch closely to see whether the single-match agreement leads to further appearances.
Fans and media outlets are already calling the event a milestone for the local game, and expectations are high for Silva’s short return to competitive play in the Hong Kong Premier League.
