On the technical specifications page for the AirPods Pro 3, it clearly states USB-C charging cable sold separately., indicating that users will need to rely on existing USB-C charging cables, purchase a new one separately, or use a wireless charger to power the charging case. Apple's cheapest USB-C charging cable (1 meter) is priced at HK$149, but you can also use any brand of USB-C cable; many people might already have suitable charging cables and chargers, so in practice, this shouldn’t be much of an issue.
The AirPods Pro 3 charging case supports wireless charging with MagSafe, Qi-certified chargers, and Apple Watch chargers, so using a charging cable isn't strictly necessary. This change comes as a surprise to some users, especially since the previous generation, the AirPods Pro 2, still included a USB-C charging cable.
In recent years, Apple has consistently stopped including charging cables and power adapters in the packaging of its new products. The company claims this decision is driven by environmental concerns, but it has also led to legal challenges, with some courts in certain regions requiring Apple to provide charging cables or power adapters free of charge.
The price of the AirPods Pro 3 is HK$1,849, which remains the same as the previous model. While there’s no price increase, Apple can boost its revenue through additional sales of USB-C charging cables.
The AirPods Pro 3 are now available for pre-order and will officially launch in the coming days. New features include improved sound quality, enhanced active noise cancellation, extended battery life, a design that fits better to ear shapes, and added sports heart rate monitoring capabilities.
