Bad Bunny Met Gala: Aging Look Challenges Fashion Norms

Bad Bunny Met Gala appearance at the 2026 Met Gala stunned observers with hyperreal prosthetic aging, a Zara evening ensemble and makeup by Mike Marino, his team said.

The Puerto Rico born music star, now 32 year old, arrived with silver hair, lifelike wrinkles and a gold handled cane that punctuated the look. His team said the styling was meant to interpret this year s Costume Institute theme, Costume Art.

The effect aged him by 53 years, according to the artist s public remarks, and he later joked that the whole process made it feel as if it had “taken me 53 years.” Bad Bunny s team credited special effects makeup artist Mike Marino with the prosthetic work.

Bad Bunny Met Gala look, and the Zara collaboration

The all black evening gown was presented as a collaboration between Bad Bunny and the global retailer Zara, and Zara confirmed the partnership in a company statement shared on social media. The dress featured an exaggerated bow at the chest, a direct nod to the sculptural eveningwear of designer Charles James from 1947, according to the event notes distributed by the artist s team.

The bow and the sculpted silhouette were intended as an homage to historical couture while also answering the Costume Institute theme. A Zara spokesperson said the house welcomed the opportunity to work on a piece that connected mass market fashion with archival tailoring.

    Makeup, prosthetics and the message

Makeup artist Mike Marino used layered prosthetics to create loose skin, sun spots and the texture of aged flesh, his studio explained in a brief statement released after the event. Photographs from the red carpet emphasized the realism of the effects.

Bad Bunny s appearance was widely read as more than a trick of costume. Critics and commentators at the gala framed it as a direct challenge to fashion s longtime focus on youth, with the artist turning time into a visible element of style.

    Impact on fashion conversation

On social media and in fashion coverage the look sparked debate about age and representation. Supporters said the stunt broadened the conversation about who gets to wear couture and who is allowed center stage.

Bad Bunny has in recent years crossed from music into fashion collaborations and high profile appearances, including stadium shows and award stage moments. His team said partnering with Zara continues that strategy, putting a mainstream retail name into a couture context.

At the Met Gala the artist s humor and boundary pushing style were on display, and the look immediately became one of the night s most discussed creative statements. Observers noted the choice reinforced Bad Bunny s influence on how mainstream brands and high fashion interact.
