David Candaux DC1 Debuts Platine Art du Tourbillon

David Candaux DC1 launches the DC1 Platine Art du Tourbillon, a new 43mm platinum-cased tourbillon limited to eight pieces and priced at approximately $273,000 (originally 248,000 CHF / reference rate 1 CHF = $1.10 USD), the independent watchmaker said.

The DC1 Platine Art du Tourbillon continues the design language of the 2017 DC1 First Eight, keeping the 30-degree inclined flying tourbillon and the asymmetrical, layered case silhouette. The new model is the brand’s first to use a platinum case, a material that adds both weight and a brighter sheen, David Candaux said.

The watch uses a 43mm platinum case finished entirely by hand polishing. Because platinum is denser and harder to work than other alloys, the brand said it reworked every edge and contour to preserve the DC1’s crisp profile.

The case measures 10.02 millimeters thick, and the total thickness including the crystal is 12.9 millimeters. The watch is rated water resistant to 30 meters.

The dial is built from multiple layers, with a central mirror-polished black onyx mainplate that is just 0.2 millimeters thick. The brand said the onyx is extremely fragile in production, and on average it uses five raw blanks to yield one finished piece.

A black anodized titanium tourbillon cage at 9 o’clock draws the eye to the 30-degree inclined flying tourbillon. At 3 o’clock a white opal hours and minutes subdial sits inside an 18K rose gold ring with applied three-dimensional hour markers, producing a semi-translucent effect under changing light.

The entire dial is made from more than a dozen independent components stacked to create pronounced three-dimensional depth, a defining trait of David Candaux’s recent designs.

    Movement, finishes and technical details

The watch is powered by the in-house H74 manual-wind caliber, made of 287 components and running at 21,600 vibrations per hour. The movement offers a 55-hour power reserve, the brand said.

Main plates and bridges are fabricated from grade 5 titanium for magnetic resistance, corrosion resistance, and reduced weight. Through the display caseback collectors can see the stacked movement architecture and the maker’s Côtes du Solliat decoration, which the brand said includes 18 polished interior angles and extensive hand chamfering.

    Magic Crown, strap and availability

The model keeps the DC1’s signature Magic Crown at 6 o’clock, a push-button mechanism inspired by retractable ballpoint pens. The assembly uses 31 parts to switch between winding, time setting, and neutral modes, and when not in use the crown fully recesses into the case to preserve the profile.

This version pairs a titanium body with a platinum crown cap to create a clear material contrast. The watch comes on a textured black rubber strap with a Velcro fastener, and the series is limited to eight pieces worldwide. David Candaux offers a 10-year warranty with the model.

The DC1 Platine Art du Tourbillon is priced at approximately $273,000 (originally 248,000 CHF / reference rate 1 CHF = $1.10 USD), the brand confirmed.
