Sony 1000X headphones arrive as a 10th anniversary model called 1000X THE COLLEXION, combining the series long emphasis on noise cancelling and sound quality with a stronger focus on materials and design details.
The new model is offered in platinum silver and black. Sony says the ear cups use a new synthetic leather across large surfaces, and the control buttons and microphone openings are integrated into the surface to create cleaner lines.

Sony moved the metal parts through a two step process of matte sandblasting followed by hand polishing, leaving a restrained surface texture that still shows fine layers of detail. The overall look shifts the 1000X series away from a purely tech aesthetic toward something that can sit alongside personal accessories.
Fit and comfort
The chassis thickness has been narrowed to 40.2 mm, which reduces how much the headphones project from the head and lowers the sense of profile when worn. Sony says the internal ear cup space has been reworked to reduce contact between the ear and the inner side of the pad.
At the same time the headband is wider to spread weight more evenly. The change is aimed at lighter pressure during long listening sessions, making the 1000X THE COLLEXION feel more wearable over hours of use.
Audio performance and features: Sony 1000X headphones
The 1000X THE COLLEXION uses a new proprietary driver assembly that pairs a soft edge suspension with a high rigidity dome and a unidirectional carbon fiber composite. Sony says this combination improves low frequency control and high frequency detail while clarifying separation between vocals and instruments.
The headphones support Hi Res Audio, Hi Res Audio Wireless, LDAC, and DSEE Ultimate to restore detail and dynamics lost in compressed files. Sony also added a 360 Reality Audio Upmix function with three modes for music, film, and games, and a dedicated Listening Mode button for quick switching.
12 microphones, Sony says, and multiple noise sensing technologies feed an adaptive noise cancelling system that adjusts in real time for changing environments. The microphones also improve voice clarity during calls.
24 hours, Sony says, is the maximum battery life with noise cancelling turned on.
Daily use and sustainability
The package adds practical touches: a magnetic closure carry case, clear left and right markings, tactile buttons, and a simplified folding system that Sony says is easier to operate. The company also designed the packaging to be plastic free, and parts of the headphones use recycled plastic material.
As a 10th anniversary entry for the 1000X line, the 1000X THE COLLEXION keeps the series emphasis on noise cancelling and tonal balance while steering the headphones closer to wearable accessories. Sony lists the model in platinum silver and black, with a suggested retail price of approximately $638 (originally 4,999 HKD / reference rate 1 HKD = 0.1276 USD).
