    Human Made buys Undercover in landmark fashion deal

    Human Made buys Undercover, the Japanese streetwear label HUMAN MADE said in a statement Thursday after signing a basic agreement to acquire all shares of UNDERCOVER.

    The announcement said the parties have signed a framework agreement and will proceed to finalize share-transfer arrangements, but the transaction amount has not been disclosed.

    HUMAN MADE said the final price will be set following an evaluation by an independent third-party appraiser, and that negotiations are continuing.

    UNDERCOVER’s history and standing

    UNDERCOVER was founded by designer Jun Takahashi in the 1990s and has become known for blending street culture with fashion design, the brand’s official history notes.

    The label has operated for more than 30 years, and is widely regarded as one of Japan’s most influential designer brands, according to fashion industry publications and company materials.

    Roots in Harajuku and earlier collaborations

    HUMAN MADE and UNDERCOVER have a prior collaboration history, and the two labels said they have released joint collections in the past.

    The announcement also recalled that NIGO and Jun Takahashi co-founded the Harajuku shop NOWHERE in 1993, a fact listed in both brands’ official histories and frequently cited in coverage of Japanese street culture.

    Company statements described NIGO and Takahashi as longtime friends, and HUMAN MADE said it seeks to build on that creative relationship as it integrates UNDERCOVER into its group.

    What HUMAN MADE says about future plans

    HUMAN MADE said it views UNDERCOVER’s brand value and creative philosophy as aligned with the group’s development direction, and it plans to strengthen the label’s business going forward.

    “We aim to further enhance the brand’s business development while respecting its creative identity,” HUMAN MADE said in a written statement.

    Industry observers said the move underscores continued consolidation in the global streetwear and designer-label market, and that attention will center on whether HUMAN MADE keeps UNDERCOVER’s creative leadership in place.

    For now, the parties said the share transfer timeline and the precise transaction terms remain subject to the third-party appraisal and subsequent negotiations.
