The Last of Us wallpaper is now available on the PlayStation 5 Welcome Hub, letting players set an official series background on their console home screen for free.
Available Sept. 28, 2026, Naughty Dog made the The Last of Us wallpaper live on the PS5 Welcome Hub so players can apply the background without visiting the PlayStation Store or downloading a separate theme package.

Users can find the The Last of Us wallpaper by starting their PS5, opening the Welcome Hub page, selecting Change Background, and looking under the game or themes section, according to Naughty Dog and PlayStation posts. No additional storage space is required, because the artwork is applied through the Welcome Hub interface rather than as an installable package.
The new background layers a young Ellie and an adult Ellie in a single composition, and it includes subtle motion details such as birds flying across the sky and brief lightning flickers. IGN and Push Square described the visual as combining the two Ellies on one screen with dynamic light and motion effects.
Why this is different from PS4 themes
Longtime players still remember the PS4 era system themes that could alter the entire console menu, icons, and sound. Sony designed the PS5 Welcome Hub to focus on replaceable widgets and customizable background panels, not a full, global interface overhaul, and the The Last of Us wallpaper follows that same Welcome Hub framework, similar to the earlier Monster Hunter Wilds dynamic background release.
Naughty Dog said the wallpaper is the first element of a larger community celebration scheduled for late September. The studio’s post teased an upcoming collaboration, a crossover project, and a digital surprise, but it did not mention any new game or a sequel under development, so fans should not read the post as confirmation of The Last of Us Part III.
Charity livestream and availability details
The studio also hosts a No Return charity livestream for The Last of Us Part II Remastered on Sept. 29 at 5 a.m. Hong Kong time, the company said. The stream will focus on accessibility options and developer interviews, and proceeds after processing fees will go to the AbleGamers Foundation.
The accompanying raffle is limited to eligible adult residents of the United States and Canada, so viewers in Hong Kong cannot enter, but they can watch the broadcast. PlayStation Store listings in Hong Kong currently sell The Last of Us Part I and The Last of Us Part II Remastered, both of which include traditional Chinese subtitles for players who want to replay the stories.
