Alexandra Eala Hong Kong beat Emerson Jones 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of the WTA 250 Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open on Tuesday at Victoria Park, the tournament said.

The match marked the opening round for the WTA 250 event, and Eala, the tournament’s No. 2 seed, closed out the match in straight sets against Emerson Jones, an Australian who entered the draw as a lucky loser after Alycia Parks withdrew.
The tournament said Parks pulled out with a shoulder injury before the match, and organizers confirmed Jones was moved into the main draw as the replacement. Eala capitalized on the late change, quickly finding rhythm from the baseline and using steady footwork to pressure Jones.
In the first set, Eala produced the crucial break in the middle of the set to take a 6-4 lead. She kept control in the second set, finishing 6-3 to seal the win.

Jones mounted a brief comeback in the second set with aggressive baseline exchanges, but Eala stayed composed and repeatedly saved break points. The crowd at Victoria Park cheered through several key rallies as Eala closed out the match on match point.
After the match, Eala said she was enjoying competing in Hong Kong and would focus on recovery and preparation. “I love the energy here,” she said. “I will give my all in every match from now on.”
Alexandra Eala Hong Kong set for second round clash
Eala will have two days to rest before facing Czech qualifier Tereza Valentová for a place in the quarterfinals. The tournament listed Eala among the event favorites heading into the week.
The next opponent, Valentová, is a rising Czech player who reached the main draw through qualifying, the tournament said. The winner of their match will move into the round of eight at the WTA 250 event.

Event atmosphere and sponsor pop ups
Off the court, organizers said a small market, a food zone, a merchandise shop, a pickleball experience area, and a large screen showing live matches helped boost the event atmosphere at Victoria Park.
The official apparel sponsor K·SWISS opened a pop up shop on site, featuring the On Court professional range. Organizers said the shop included match shirts worn by Andrey Rublev and Liudmila Samsonova, a 60th anniversary K·SWISS tennis shoe, and a K·SWISS x KIRSH leisure collection that channels the Korean Tenniscore trend.
Organizers also pointed to event exclusives, including a K·SWISS x WTA 250 commemorative towel, a WTA cap, and an interactive gacha machine with limited edition tennis key chains available while supplies last.
