In the midst of the bustling motorcycle racing season, the Catalonia race week has garnered significant attention, particularly because renowned F1 manager Guenther Steiner has successfully acquired the Tech3 team, adding a fresh topic to the entire event. With KTM facing operational challenges in 2025, the future of Tech3 had appeared uncertain—especially under the management of French manager Herve Poncharal. During the Aragón GP, discussions between Steiner and Poncharal surfaced, leading to media excitement about this change.
Despite Poncharal’s previous denials regarding the acquisition rumors, reports from motorsport.com indicate that both parties continued to hold private talks after the race, ultimately confirming this deal ahead of the Catalonia race. The amount involved in the acquisition is staggering, reaching 20 million euros, with behind-the-scenes influencers including F1 driver Lando Norris’s financial advisor and key stakeholders from the Alpine team, Apex Group, who played a significant role in making this deal happen.
According to the acquisition agreement, Poncharal will transition to an advisory role at the end of this season, while Steiner will take over as the team’s CEO, with business partner Richard Coleman stepping into the team principal position. Notably, the Tech3 team name will remain unchanged, continuing to be based in Bourges, France, while also adhering to the existing agreement with KTM, which will not affect the contract status of riders Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales. Additionally, the Tech3 team has been granted a year to consider whether to jointly enter into the fourth generation of racing technical regulations with KTM, set to be fully implemented by 2027.
