Galaxy Z Fold8 debuted at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event in London with an Ultra model that adds an 8-inch inner display, a 200MP main camera, and a top price of approximately $2,645 (originally HK$20,798), Samsung said.
Samsung said Hong Kong preorders open today through Aug. 6, with official sales beginning Aug. 7. Entry-level foldable pricing starts at approximately $1,210 (originally HK$9,498), with trade-in and promotional bundles available during the preorder window.
Samsung is promoting preorder incentives that include half-price storage upgrades, trade-in allowances, Samsung Care+ and a six-month trial of Google AI Pro. Samsung cautioned that AI-service trials convert to paid subscriptions after the trial period and that availability varies by region, language and terms of service.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra finally fills the Ultra role
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra targets heavy creators who shoot, edit and publish from a single device. Samsung said the phone opens to a 8-inch QXGA Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner screen and keeps a 6.5-inch outer display, both at 120Hz.
Samsung listed the Fold8 Ultra as 215g and 4.1mm thick when unfolded. The company highlighted the ability to run maps and messaging side by side, or to check reference material while composing emails, reducing app switching for power users.
Under the hood is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, and Samsung offers configurations of 12GB RAM with 256GB or 512GB storage, and a top 16GB with 1TB storage option. The camera system moves to a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide and a 10MP 3x optical telephoto, with 8K recording, APV encoding, Cine LUT and AI imaging tools, Samsung said.
That hardware positions the Fold8 Ultra as more than a social-camera phone. For event shooters who want to trim, color-correct and subtitle video on the spot, the combination of a high-pixel sensor and a large inner screen aims to replace a pocket camera and a portable editor, at a premium price.
Battery capacity is 5,000mAh with 45W wired fast charging. The Fold8 Ultra also supports wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare, and Samsung said it added dual-path charging architecture and larger graphite heat dissipation to manage extended 8K recording, gaming and multi-window workloads; real-world thermal and endurance performance will require hands-on testing.
Galaxy Z Fold8 moves to a wider, more everyday screen
Samsung said the standard Galaxy Z Fold8 adopts a wider outer ratio and a 7.6-inch 4:3 inner display that is closer to small tablets. When folded the phone uses a 10:16 ratio and a 5.5-inch outer screen, and the company calls this the lightest Galaxy Z Fold to date at 201g.
The wider inner 4:3 screen will not fill ultra-wide movies without letterboxing, but Samsung said it makes reading web pages, magazines, documents and many game interfaces easier than the taller, narrow foldable screens of prior generations.
The Fold8 shares the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy platform, a 4,800mAh battery and 45W wired charging. Camera hardware is two 50MP rear modules and features such as Dual Recording and My FanCam, Samsung said. In other words, the Fold8 is not a budget substitute for the Fold8 Ultra, but a different product line that prioritizes size, weight and screen ratio.

If your priority is the most complete camera system, the largest inner screen and maximum storage, Samsung said the Fold8 Ultra is the model to choose. If your main goals are video playback, reading and everyday multitasking rather than camera-first workflows, the lighter 201g Fold8 may be a better fit.
Galaxy Z Flip8 may be the easiest to attract new users
The Galaxy Z Flip8 continues the small-foldable approach, weighing 180g with a 6.9-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner display and a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED FlexWindow on the outside, Samsung said.
Samsung places Now Brief, personal prompts and Gemini Intelligence on the FlexWindow, so quick checks of schedules, notifications or short info can happen without opening the main screen. For street use, transit or when you are carrying a drink, Samsung said the FlexWindow reduces the need to open the phone repeatedly.
Camera hardware includes a 50MP main sensor with Samsung’s ProVisual Engine and features such as FlexCam, FlipShot, Mirror View, Zoom Rocker and Camcorder Grip, all aimed at making half-fold tabletop shooting and quick vlogs easier, Samsung said.
The Flip8 uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy and comes in 12GB + 256GB and 12GB + 512GB versions. Battery capacity is 4,300mAh with 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. Samsung noted the Flip8’s battery and charging profile is smaller than the Fold models, which may matter for heavy daily shooters.

Galaxy AI starts nudging you toward the next step
Samsung said Galaxy AI shifts from doing a task to suggesting what you should do next. Now Nudge proposes actions based on conversation context, such as opening a calendar entry or saving a location. Gemini Intelligence supports cross-app operations, and Gemini Notebook aggregates notes, images, audio and documents.
Samsung also introduced AI Assistant Activity so users can see what the AI is processing. Security features called Personal Data Engine, Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection, Knox Vault, Auto Blocker, Theft Protection and Secure Wi Fi handle permissions and data flow, Samsung said. Users should review permission settings before enabling cross-app AI features.
Watch Ultra2 built for outdoor use
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 keeps a 47mm titanium case and a 1.52-inch Super AMOLED screen with up to 5,000 nits peak brightness. Samsung said the watch uses an 800mAh battery, 64GB storage, 2GB of RAM and the Snapdragon Wear Elite platform, and it supports LTE, Bluetooth 6.0, dual-band GPS, NFC and Wear OS Powered by Samsung 7.0.
Samsung said the Ultra2’s brightness and battery help in direct sunlight and long outdoor sessions. The company claims a power-saving mode lasting up to 72 hours, but actual endurance depends on GPS, LTE, always-on display and workout tracking use.
The watch supports Trail Run and Nutrition Alert features, 10 ATM water resistance, IP69K, MIL-STD-810H and EN13319 diving accessory standards. Samsung also noted Wear OS Mares App compatibility for dive logging. The company said these features are aimed at trail runners, divers and long outdoor users, while typical notification and step-tracking users may find the 47mm case and price more than they need.
Watch9 looks more like a daily health companion
The Galaxy Watch9 is available in 40mm and 44mm sizes with a thickness of 8.6mm and weights near 31.5g and 34g. Samsung said both sizes use the Snapdragon Wear Elite platform, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, a 3,000-nit Super AMOLED screen and dual-band GPS. Battery capacities are 390mAh for the 40mm model and 445mAh for the 44mm model.
Samsung emphasized that lighter, thinner wearability helps overnight use for sleep tracking. The Watch9 adds or enhances sleep apnea detection, vitals, a heart-health score, daily cardiopulmonary load and a Fitness Index, and Samsung said these features organize sleep, heart rate and activity trends for easier interpretation. The company cautioned that health metrics require a Samsung account, Samsung Health and compatible Android devices, and they are for wellness monitoring only, not a medical diagnosis.

Beyond spec sheets, Samsung’s product strategy this generation splits foldable needs more explicitly. The Fold8 Ultra targets users who do not want to trade camera and battery for a large screen. The Fold8 focuses on a wider, more tablet-like inner screen for reading and entertainment. The Flip8 keeps the most-used quick actions on the outside display, Samsung said. For most buyers Samsung recommended choosing based on whether you need a portable workstation, a compact entertainment tablet, or a pocketable selfie device.
