The recently released film Choking Countdown is based on true events, telling the gripping story of a crew who, while repairing an oil pipeline, find themselves trapped in a claustrophobic underwater space. Such dire situations have occurred worldwide, and the new game The Cave Diver simulates this heart-pounding survival scenario. Players must crawl forward with their arms in an incredibly narrow cave, immersing themselves in a truly terrifying survival challenge.
The Cave Diver is a carefully crafted horror adventure escape game developed by independent creator Ovsko. Legend has it that there’s a mysterious cave that hides flowers capable of healing all ailments, but no one has ever returned successfully. Upon venturing into this cave, the character finds themselves trapped, their legs injured and immobile, forced to rely on arm movements to crawl. The interior is not only narrow but also filled with intersections, where dead ends can unexpectedly ensnare players, leading to chasms from which there’s no turning back, causing the hope of escape to dwindle ever further.
In terms of gameplay, The Cave Diver is somewhat similar to Iron Hammer Climbing, requiring players to maneuver their character's arms to move forward, grab, and release in order to crawl. Some paths even demand that players grab one end and swing across to the other side using a pendulum motion, all calculated by the physics engine. When faced with unexpected situations that leave the character in awkward positions, players might find themselves unable to move forward, left only to wait for their inevitable demise.
However, death isn't really an end; in fact, it makes the journey ahead a bit easier. Each time players die, their bodies stay put, serving as landmarks for future exploration. On top of that, players can leave markers in the caves, gradually piecing together the structure of the tunnels, which allows for more precise planning of their future routes.
The Cave Diver is set to launch on the PC Steam platform in autumn 2025 and will support Traditional Chinese. We're looking forward to the thrills and challenges that this unique game will bring!
