Brighton vs Chelsea: Brighton wins 3-0 at home

Brighton vs Chelsea opened at Brighton’s home, and Brighton took the lead in the third minute when a corner sparked confusion in the box and Kadioglu finished from close range to give the hosts a dream start.

Brighton vs Chelsea: early goal sets the tone

The early strike lifted the crowd and immediately put pressure on Chelsea’s defense, forcing them to chase the game from the opening stages.

On 18 minutes, Chelsea made a costly error at the back when goalkeeper Robert Sanchez misjudged a pass, and the ball fell to Carlos Baleba inside the area. He squared it to Hinshelwood, but the chance was cleared by Chalobah, momentarily relieving the visitors.

Chelsea offer little threat in first half

Chelsea produced almost no attacking threat across the first half, failing to register a single shot on target as they looked disjointed in build-up play and lacked cohesion between midfield and attack.

After the break, a second-half substitute briefly lifted Chelsea’s momentum, his individual runs providing moments of danger, but they did not turn into goals.

Brighton maintained steady pressure, and in the 56th minute the player who had earlier missed a chance tucked away a shot from inside the box to make it 2-0, effectively putting the result beyond doubt.

Late third goal seals Brighton vs Chelsea result

As the match moved into its final stages, Chelsea still struggled to create clear chances, their finishing lacking a cutting edge. In stoppage time, a substitute who had come on late completed a counterattack with a calm finish to seal a 3-0 victory for Brighton.

The defeat leaves Chelsea with five straight league matches without a goal, a run the club said has not happened since 1912. The run adds to a poor stretch for the team, which has lost seven of its past eight across all competitions and has won only one of its last nine league games.

    Coach criticism, player reaction

After the match, coach Liam Rosenior was sharply critical of the squad’s performance, saying the display fell well below the standard expected at the club and blaming a lack of fight, spirit, and the right attitude, comments for which he said he would accept responsibility.

Defender Chalobah offered a different assessment, saying the players had given everything on the pitch and that the dressing-room mood reflected physical and mental fatigue, rather than a lack of effort.

    Standings and what comes next

Sunday’s result sees Brighton move above Chelsea in the league table, dropping Chelsea to seventh and widening the gap to the top places.

Chelsea now prepare for the FA Cup semi-final, a match that will come under extra scrutiny as pressure mounts on the coaching staff and the club’s overall setup if results do not improve.
