GU Engineered Garments announced a new capsule collection called "New American Riviera," set to arrive for spring and summer 2026, pairing 1950s American resort style with modern performance fabrics, GU said in a press release.
Engineered Garments was founded by Japanese designer Daiki Suzuki and is known for reworking classic American workwear and military clothing for contemporary wardrobes, according to the brand. GU said the two labels share a commitment to precise tailoring and detailed garment craft, which formed the basis for the collaboration.
The capsule uses lightweight, climate adaptive fabrics designed for warm weather. GU described the palette as centered on earth brown and deep indigo, with an emphasis on breathability to reduce skin discomfort during hot days.
Key pieces highlighted in the joint release include a textured Cordlane Jacket and matching Cordlane Relaxed Pants, plus a shirt that merges classic pleating with military style pocket details, billed as a modern take on a Guayabera shirt.
GU Engineered Garments collaboration: design and function
Functionality is central to the GU Engineered Garments capsule, the brands said. Utility Shorts are cut wide and feature deliberately asymmetric, casual pockets to offer multiple storage options for everyday wear.
As a finishing set in the capsule, Dry Pique Crossed Neck T shirts and Dry Pique Polo Shirts use quick wicking materials designed to keep wearers dry and comfortable in summer heat, GU said.
Key pieces and styling notes
The collection frames workwear details in a relaxed resort context. The Cordlane Jacket is textured for visual depth, and the Cordlane Relaxed Pants carry the same fabric for coordinated outfits.
- Cordlane Jacket, textured jacket intended as a seasonal outer layer.
- Cordlane Relaxed Pants, matching relaxed trousers for movement and breathability.
- Guayabera Shirt, a reinterpreted Cuban style shirt with pleats and military pockets.
- Utility Shorts, wide cut with asymmetric pockets for practical storage.
- Dry Pique T shirts and Polo Shirts, quick wicking pieces for hot weather.
GU said the New American Riviera capsule is not a literal reproduction of a past era. Instead, the companies used modern proportions and high performance materials to reinterpret mid 20th century style for contemporary life.
Availability and how to wear the collection
The GU Engineered Garments capsule is available online now, GU said. The launch positions the collaboration as a versatile option that blends everyday dressing with relaxed resort looks.
GU recommended pairing the textured jacket and relaxed pants as a coordinated set, or mixing single pieces with casual staples such as denim or linen trousers for a layered warm weather outfit. The quick wicking Dry Pique shirts are suggested as warm season essentials.
Engineered Garments founder Daiki Suzuki has previously emphasized function and detail in his design work, and GU said this capsule continues that focus while expanding the brands reach into resort informed styling.
