Discover the Kia PV5 Electric SUV and Commercial Vehicles in Hong Kong

The Kia PV5 is a key development series for the automaker, marking its first fully electric offering in both private and commercial vehicles. The PV5 lineup features five-seat (or seven-seat) SUVs alongside options for two-seat and five-seat commercial vehicles, including flatbed and high-top versions. This diverse range is not commonly seen in recent years. In Hong Kong, the distributor has introduced the five-seat SUV, along with two versions of five-seat and two-seat commercial vehicles, of which I will first review the SUV model.

This is not my first experience with the PV5, as it was showcased at last year’s auto show. Initially, it did not seem overly large, but upon visiting the venue, its size was more evident. Measuring 15.4 feet long, 6.2 feet wide, and 6.3 feet tall (note the height may limit access to many indoor parking structures), it visually appears even larger than comparable models like the 200 series Hiace. This perception might be connected to its sleek design, which features a streamlined front end and prominent curves, as well as massive, expansive windows that contribute to its imposing visual presence.

The PV5 boasts remarkably large windows, particularly the front side windows which extend below shoulder height, enhancing visibility significantly. Additionally, the cabin offers ample space; both the front and rear seating areas are roomy, with abundant storage compartments ideal for personal items or commercial paperwork, demonstrating a level of thoughtfulness that rivals Japanese brands. The cargo area is exceptionally generous, with few vehicles offering similar volume, comparable only to the V-Class. Its square-shaped cargo space proves practical for transporting items such as car seats, strollers, and even bicycles for children or adults—ideal for various transport needs.

Both the private and commercial versions are equipped with a 71.2 kWh battery, utilizing a front-mounted motor for front-wheel drive. Driving experience reflects the typical agility of electric vehicles; despite the rear torsion beam suspension design—which does enhance cargo utility—this model’s weight of 4,700 pounds still allows for adequate maneuverability. However, it’s essential to note that with a height just over 6.2 feet, this vehicle should ideally be parked in structures with a clearance of at least 6.6 feet.
