The Montegrappa Miura pen turns the Lamborghini Miura’s pop up headlight into a tiny crystal mechanism that rises from the cap, a playful detail that invites handling before writing.
Introduced to the public at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show, the Lamborghini Miura was designed by Marcello Gandini and is widely regarded as a formative supercar for its low nose, flowing lines, and transversely mounted V12 engine. The Miura’s signature retractable headlights, framed by the black eyelash trim, are one of the model’s most recognizable features and the central motif for this collaboration.
Montegrappa Miura pen design details
On the cap a clear crystal lens sits over a miniature headlight shaped and textured to echo the original Miura lamp. Press a recessed button and the crystal lamp pops up from an angled housing, then folds back flush to the cap when released. The small lamp is decorative rather than functional, the charm lies in operating the same mechanical motion found on the car.
Automotive cues across the body
The Montegrappa Miura pen carries automotive references beyond the cap. The rounded arc at the cap front mirrors the Miura front apron, the black clip carries louver like ribs, and the tail references the engine cover grille. Gloss color finishes paired with metal fittings make the connection to the car obvious when the pen is lifted or rotated.
The collection comes in three colors: Giallo Fly yellow, Verde Miura green, and black. Each finish is offered as a fountain pen and a rollerball. Each model is limited to 60 examples, for a total of 360 pieces across the six versions, Montegrappa said in a statement.
Nib, sizes, and kit
The fountain pen uses an 18 karat gold nib plated with rhodium for a dark metallic sheen, engraved with the Lamborghini crest and fitted with a hard rubber feed. In addition to standard sizes, Montegrappa offers a 1.1 millimeter stub nib for writers who prefer line variation.
Bodies are stainless steel and aluminum. The pen measures 161 millimeters long and 20 millimeters in diameter, which is about 6.34 inches long and 0.79 inch in diameter. The fountain pen weighs 87 grams, about 3.07 ounces, and the rollerball weighs 92 grams, about 3.25 ounces. The set includes a lacquered wood and leather presentation box inspired by Miura seats and cabin trim to extend the automotive reference when opening the case.
Price and availability
The Montegrappa Miura pen fountain model is priced at approximately $9,000 (originally 8,250 euros), and the rollerball is approximately $7,470 (originally 6,850 euros), Montegrappa said. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in mid November 2026, the company added.
Collectors and automotive enthusiasts will likely find the tactile headlight mechanism the strongest selling point. The Montegrappa Miura pen reframes a small mechanical detail from a landmark sports car into a handheld object of Italian craftsmanship and automobile nostalgia.
