Fatal Fury book will arrive May 20, 2026, Bitmap Books announced, offering a 460-page deep dive into SNK's seminal fighting series with exclusive access to the company's archives.
The publisher said the book traces the series from the original 1991 Fatal Fury through landmark entries and the NEOGEO era, placing the franchise in the wider SNK universe and examining its links to The King of Fighters and Art of Fighting.
What the Fatal Fury book contains
The 460-page volume uses Pantone black printing and premium paper, and includes design sketches, promotional illustrations, and original cover art drawn from the SNK archive, Bitmap Books said. The book totals 460 pages, and the publisher described the production values as aimed at collectors and museum libraries.
Bitmap Books said the text analyzes design intent across every major entry, from Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition to Garou: Mark of the Wolves, and it also covers a title the publisher listed as Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.
Interviews and contributors
The book includes new interviews with core development staff, including pixel artists Hitoshi Okamoto, Youichiro Soeda, and Nobuyuki Kuroki, and planner Takeshi Kimura, Bitmap Books said. Yasuyuki Oda, who served as director and producer on SNK fighting games, contributed the foreword.
Illustrations and character art come from noted artists such as Shinkiro, TONKO, and Eiji Shiroi, supplementing the archival materials and developer accounts.

The book situates Fatal Fury within SNK's broader lore and hardware history, noting how NEOGEO became synonymous with high-end home arcade ports in the 1990s. It frames the series as a foundational influence on modern fighting games, based on interviews and archival documents.
