Human Vapor trailer: Netflix, Toho unveil first look

Human Vapor trailer delivers a first look at Netflix and Toho’s new thriller series, produced by Yeon Sang Ho and set to stream worldwide on July 2, 2026, Netflix and Toho said in a joint statement.

Human Vapor trailer shows a man who can turn into gas

The first footage centers on a lone man with a terrifying ability: he can transform his body into vapor and move silently through crowds, leaving behind scenes of smoke and sudden destruction, according to the joint press materials.

The preview mixes quiet menace with sudden bursts of action, including an explosion that sends a steam like shape through a busy street, suggesting an unpredictable cat and mouse chase across the city.

Reboot of a 1960 tokusatsu classic

The series is a reboot of the 1960 tokusatsu film The Human Vapor, part of Japan’s special effects tradition that includes Godzilla, and it brings together creative talent from Japan and South Korea, the companies said.

Yeon Sang Ho, the writer and producer best known for Train to Busan and the Netflix series Hellbound, is listed as both writer and executive producer on the project, the statement said.

    Film quality visuals from Shirogumi

The production credited the visual effects house Shirogumi, which worked on Godzilla Minus One, with handling the series effects, a credit that the companies say aims to deliver movie level visuals rather than a typical television look.

That VFX pedigree appears in the trailer, where realistic steam and particulate effects are used to render the lead’s vapor form, and to heighten the sense of danger in crowded urban settings.

    When and where to watch

Netflix said Human Vapor will debut globally on July 2, 2026, with the platform releasing the first trailer online alongside the announcement.

Fans can view the trailer on Netflix’s official YouTube channel and on the service’s platform, and the companies encouraged viewers to watch for further casting and episode details in the coming months.

For now, the Human Vapor trailer offers a hint of a tense, effects driven thriller that reimagines a classic tokusatsu premise for a global streaming audience.
