The Super Mario Galaxy trailer from Nintendo and Illumination debuted Monday, revealing a brief Mouser cameo and the Mario brothers meeting Yoshi, the companies said.
The film is billed as a follow up to the 2023 animated adaptation, which, according to Box Office Mojo, grossed $1.3 billion worldwide.

The Super Mario Galaxy trailer, released by Nintendo and Illumination, runs through several new set pieces and character moments, and the studio confirmed an April 1 release date in the same announcement.
The clip shows Chris Pratt returning as Mario and Charlie Day as Luigi, as the brothers set off on a new interstellar adventure with familiar allies. The trailer also introduces Yoshi on screen with the brothers for the first time in a live action quality animated feature.
Other franchise favorites appear in the footage, including Birdo, Big Bertha, a T rex sequence, and a Tostarenan encounter. The trailer also teases Rosalina, voiced in this film by Brie Larson, alongside the cast listed in the studio’s credits.
Mouser returns in the Super Mario Galaxy trailer
The most unexpected call back in the Super Mario Galaxy trailer is Mouser, the anthropomorphic mouse, who appears near Princess Peach, played in the film by Anya Taylor Joy.
Mouser shows up for only a moment, wearing sunglasses while facing Birdo. Nintendo and long time series records show Mouser first appeared as a boss in the 1987 Japanese game Yume Kōjō Doki Doki Panic, which was adapted and released in the West as Super Mario Bros. 2 in 1988.
Series histories and game credits list Mouser as largely absent from original stage appearances after that early era. He reemerged in several 1990s collections, including Super Mario All Stars and related compilations, and later turned up as minor in game memorabilia, such as stickers in 2008’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the records show.
What fans can expect next
It is not yet clear whether Mouser will have a speaking role in the new film or if his appearance is a visual cameo. Nintendo and Illumination did not list a voice actor for the character in the trailer credits.
The Super Mario Galaxy trailer gives fans a first look at how the franchise might modernize legacy bosses, but the full scope of Mouser’s role will not be known until the April 1 release, the studios said.
