Florence boutique hotel Porta Rossa Hotel Firenze opened in May as the first property under the Colbert Collection, occupying a restored building on Via Porta Rossa a few minutes from the Arno River and the Ponte Vecchio, the company said.
Minor Hotels, which owns the new brand, said the building dates to 1386 and is among Italy’s oldest surviving hotel properties. The hotel reopened after an extensive renovation, the company said, retaining original details such as the red entrance door, painted glass bearing the inscription “Per non dormire,” vaulted ceilings, and classical frescoes.

Florence boutique hotel rooms and design
The property has 69 rooms and suites designed to evoke private chambers of Renaissance palaces, the company said. Interiors use leather, embroidered wallpaper, mineral tones, and fabric bed canopies to create a quiet, refined atmosphere.
Six signature suites incorporate local history. The Amici Miei Frescoed Junior Suite features imagery that appeared in a classic Italian film, and the Bartolini Frescoed Suite is wrapped in 18th century frescoes that extend from floor to ceiling, the hotel said.

The most distinctive accommodation is the Torre Monalda Signature Suite, set inside a 13th century tower that is one of the few surviving medieval towers in Florence. Guests booking the suite will have panoramic views across the city and a direct sense of being inside a historic urban monument.
Public spaces, dining, and social life at this Florence boutique hotel
Public areas were a central focus of the renovation. The new brand emphasizes the “art of gathering,” so the lobby was conceived as a modern piazza with custom furniture, leather details, and warm lighting modeled on traditional Florence lanterns to encourage social interaction, Minor Hotels said.
The hotel also includes a bistro bar designed to strengthen the social and conversational life of guests, the company said. Two meeting rooms are available for events, with capacity for up to 40 people, suitable for small business meetings or private gatherings inside a historic setting.

Dining at the hotel will be led by Michelin starred chef Paolo Airaudo, who is overseeing a new concept restaurant scheduled to open in June, the company said. The menu will reinterpret local Florence ingredients and classic Italian flavors in a more delicate but informal presentation aimed at travelers who prioritize culinary experience.
Brand rollout and what this means for travelers
Minor Hotels said the Colbert Collection positions itself between independent hotels, art and culture, and food experiences. With Porta Rossa Hotel Firenze as its inaugural opening, the company plans additional properties later this year and beyond.
The group has announced plans for a London property called The WestDill Mayfair Hotel London in the fourth quarter of this year and an Asian opening, Colbert Collection Koh Samui, expected in 2027. Analysts tracking the boutique hotel market say travelers are increasingly drawn to properties that emphasize local history and culture.
Porta Rossa Hotel Firenze is likely to become one of Florence’s most talked about hotel openings this season because it combines a prominent central location with preserved historic features and a new culinary program, the company said.
Minor Hotels provided images and details in a company press release and confirmed room availability and the restaurant timeline. For reservations and more information, the company directs guests to its official website, the statement said.
