MG4 Urban will appear at the June 18 auto show with a fresh exterior design but a conventional battery pack rather than the semi solid battery some buyers expected, MG Motor said at a preview for the model.

Buyers should note that dealers are currently offering both the new MG4 Urban and the previous MG4 model, dealers said at showrooms in Hong Kong. That means shoppers need to confirm which version they are buying, because the older model remains available alongside the updated variant.
MG Motor also sells two distinct models in mainland China, known there as MG4 and MG 4X. The two versions have different styling cues, and the MG 4X in China is available with a semi solid battery. Buyers in mainland China should check the exact model badging and specification, because the spacing in the model name differs between the two variants and could cause confusion at purchase.

MG4 Urban design and color choices
The MG4 Urban updates the hatchback with styling nods to MG Motor’s Cyberster concept, including a more pronounced intake area on the front fascia and arrow shaped taillights that sit naturally on the car’s rear panel. MG said the new look is a deliberate move to target younger buyers.
The Hong Kong market will get seven exterior color choices for MG4 Urban. In the mainland China line up, MG offers six colors that pair a black roof with contrasting body colors; among those combinations, the black roof with a blue body was singled out at the preview as an attractive option for buyers.

Interior layout and space
The cabin on the MG4 Urban featured a light blue and white two color theme with red contrast stitching on the preview car. The manufacturer said the palette and trim choices are intended to modernize the MG4 image.
The new model’s dimensions have increased compared with the previous MG4, which helps interior space. MG lists overall length at 4.395 meters, width at 1.842 meters, and height at 1.549 meters, with a wheelbase of 2.750 meters. That translates to about 14.4 feet long, 6.0 feet wide, 5.1 feet tall, and a 9.0 foot wheelbase.
Rear seat comfort benefits from a slightly higher cushion than many rival electric hatchbacks, providing better thigh support for adult passengers, observers at the preview said.

Powertrain, range, and driving character
MG4 Urban arrives in Hong Kong with a single front mounted electric motor and a 53.9 kilowatt hour battery, MG confirmed. The motor output is rated at 160 horsepower and 250 newton meters of torque, which equals about 184 pound feet.
Driving range is listed at 405 kilometers on the maker’s cycle, which is about 252 miles. MG said the model uses a conventional lithium ion battery pack rather than the semi solid cell technology seen in some other MG models in mainland China.
During a brief media preview drive, journalists found the chassis to be solid and the steering responsive. MG tuned the suspension toward a more European feel, offering taut body control without becoming overly stiff, which the company said is intended to suit family buyers across multiple markets.
