Amandayan Lijiang activities include wild-mushroom foraging, market cooking classes, seasonal cocktails, and a new summer spa program at the hilltop resort.

The hotel sits atop Lion Hill, overlooking Lijiang Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its cobbled streets and timber architecture. Guests can walk from the property to nearby landmarks such as Wenchang Palace and Wangu Tower, blending old town culture with alpine scenery, Amandayan said.

As the rainy season arrives, the mountain forests around Lijiang begin to produce a variety of wild fungi, the hotel said. Amandayan offers guided mushroom foraging excursions into the pine and oak woods southwest of the town, led by local guides who explain the forest ecology and foraging traditions.

After the harvest, guests may enjoy an outdoor banquet cooked over low heat with spring water, local Naxi ham, free range chicken, and the freshly gathered mushrooms. The experience emphasizes seasonal flavor and local technique, the resort said.

What to expect on a foraging day

Participants meet a hotel host in the morning and transfer a short distance to the forest. Guides cover safe identification, sustainable harvesting practices, and the cultural role of foraging in Yunnan cuisine.

Seasonal menus, cooking classes, and market tours

The resort restaurant Man Yi Xuan has introduced a summer menu focused on wild-mushroom hot pot and other seasonal dishes that showcase matsutake, amanita chestnut mushrooms, and other local species. The menu uses a range of cooking techniques to highlight textural and aromatic differences, the hotel said.

New this year is a market cooking class and food market tour. Guests, accompanied by a hotel butler, visit a traditional Lijiang market to learn about mountain greens, wild mushrooms, highland spices, edible flowers, and seasonal fruit, then return to the hotel for a chef demonstration and hands-on cooking session.

    Market class format

The morning market tour is followed by a kitchen session where the resort chef demonstrates techniques and guides guests to prepare local specialty dishes. The program is designed for small groups, the resort said, so participants get hands-on time with ingredients and cooking methods.

    Cocktails and an Omakase twist

In the evenings, the tea house bistro serves a seasonal cocktail Omakase. Bartenders create daily cocktails using selected ingredients such as plum, pine needle, wild mushrooms, and local herbs, so each visit offers different flavors.

The resort recommends booking the cocktail Omakase in advance because the menu changes with daily ingredient selections, Amandayan said.

    Rooms, design, and wellness

Amandayan has 35 rooms and villas, including courtyard suites, deluxe suites, and standalone villas. Design elements draw from Naxi culture, using Yunnan pine, elm, Dongba wood carving, and Naxi embroidery, with natural light and courtyard views intended to create a quiet retreat.

The spa has launched a new summer season treatment series called “Summer Calm, Balance the Body,” combining moxibustion, cupping, and herbal hot compress massage with traditional Chinese medicine principles to promote relaxation, the resort said. Facilities include a heated outdoor pool, steam rooms, a fitness center, and multiple treatment rooms, plus classes in ta0ai chi, Baduanjin qigong, yoga, and meditation.

    Wellness reservations

The resort advised guests to reserve spa treatments and wellness classes in advance, as spaces are limited. Amandayan said some room packages include daily breakfast and may add dining, spa, or curated experiences depending on the package and travel dates.

How to book and contact information

Guests interested in Amandayan Lijiang activities can view current offers and make reservations through Amandayan on the Aman Resorts website, the hotel said. Packages, inclusions, and transfer options vary by travel dates and room type.

Amandayan address: 29 Shishan Road, Lijiang Old Town District, Yunnan Province, China. Phone: +86 888 533 9999. Website: www.aman.com/resorts/amandayan.

For the latest program details and booking terms, Amandayan said visitors should consult the official Aman Resorts website or contact the resort directly.
