Gucci Spring 2027 offers the clearest view yet of what designer Demna Gvasalia, known professionally as Demna, thinks the house should be. At the presentation titled “The Store Show,” he staged a giant boutique where men’s and women’s looks moved through the space like customers browsing racks of distinct characters, from “The Rebellious Aristocrat” to “The Snob” and “The Eccentric.”
Gucci Spring 2027 feels less wrapped in the nocturnal, clubby mood that marked some of Demna’s earlier work, and more like a curated wardrobe. The men’s lineup began with cropped Italian-style trousers and sockless loafers, then moved into signature proportion play: fitted saddle-shoulder tailoring on one silhouette, and loose cropped jackets with elongated drapey jeans on another.
Rather than a retreat into conservatism, the show reimagined familiar Gucci signatures. The Horsebit motif was deliberately enlarged, repeated, and repurposed across garments. One belt style, presented as a “3X” waist belt, used three Horsebits in sequence, while oversized single Horsebits became garment hardware and trim.
Women’s looks started from everyday tailoring: sharp suits paired with trousers or knee skirts. Saddle shoulders rose high without added pads, keeping structure while trimming bulk. Shirts, roomy jackets, rugby-style tops, and A-line pleated skirts recalled office wear and preppy codes of the 1980s and 1990s.
Fabrics alternated between Scottish tartans, leather, and checked wool, then shifted from day into evening with cashmere and fur coats, body-skimming tailoring, and asymmetrical gowns at the close. The overall arc suggested a full house wardrobe, rather than a single mood.
Accessories signaled how Demna plans to treat Gucci history. A new “urban” Horsebit bag used restrained lines, while the Bamboo handle was rebuilt in segments of leather rather than a single curved piece, appearing on top-handle and soft messenger styles. The 3X Horsebit belt was also miniaturized into a party clutch in one look.
Shoe shapes followed the same logic of reinterpretation. Demna’s first revised Gucci loafers introduced a squared toe and a soft driving sole. He brought tassled bedroom slippers into streetwear, then contrasted them with low block heels and knee-high leather boots embossed with the house monogram.
Demna’s reading of Gucci can be traced to the house’s historical ties to social spaces such as The Savoy hotel in London, where varied backgrounds have long met in a single room. That idea explains why he made a “store” the show setting: a boutique can hold suits, jeans, loafers, jewelry, fur, and eveningwear all at once.
In Demna’s words, the goal was a “complete personal vision,” not to overwrite Gucci with his own signature, but to reorganize a century-old wardrobe so those different Gucci personae can inhabit the same world again. At its core, Gucci Spring 2027 reassigns old symbols at new scales, letting new and familiar elements swap places on the same rack.
